The course
The golf course is designed with an innovative and environmentally respectful vision. Grass is placed only in game areas, such as the greens and fairways, leaving ample space for the island's authentic moonlike soil. The red, grey, and brown soil not only beautifies the landscape but also creates a harmonious link between the game and the surrounding nature, enriched by palm trees, aloe vera, and cactuses.
The unique charm of 18-hole, Par 72 course stretches approximately 6,000 meters. Nestled amidst palm trees and offering a breathtaking 300º view of the Atlantic Ocean, Viveiro Golf & Country Club is truly an oasis in the desert.
Respect for nature and local impact
This intelligent design not only limits water use but also reduces the impact of grass on a desert environment. The use of special type of paspalum grass that can withstand up to 70% pure seawater, demonstrating a solid commitment to sustainability.
Beyond its natural beauty and ecological innovation, the Viveiro Golf & Country Club has had a significant impact on the local community. For over 20 years, the Viveiro nursery has grown and maintained the plants that now adorn Santa Maria and some of the island's most beautiful hotels. This effort has also allowed us to plant over 5,000 palm trees on our golf course, creating a lush and inviting landscape.
Construction of the Viveiro Golf Course began in 2019, and the 18-hole course was completed in March 2024. However, the course welcomed its first players with an initial 9 holes in December 2021. This early opening not only provided an exceptional golfing experience but also generated numerous new professions and job opportunities within the community.
